Q&A: Help Choosing the Best Round Cut Diamond for $6K in the 0.9-1.05 Ct. Range

By Mike Fried,

Hi! I have been wrestling with selecting an engagement ring for a couple months now and scouring the internet for any help I can get. THANK GOD i found your website as i has had some of the most straight forward honest information I’ve found out there. Through my searching i have more or less determined the setting I’m going to get in Platinum

Now the tricky part comes and that is finding the stone to set in it. I have poured over James Allen but seem to look at countless photos of diamonds that really don’t know anything about. Every time i find something i think would be good i get cold feet about making an online purchase and spending thousands without actually getting my hands on it. So basically

1) how should i go about my search on JA to find the be best Round cut diamond for 6K in the .9-1.05 range?

2) Is there any truth in what the brick and mortar shops tell you about some diamonds just dont have the brillance others do and therefore never buy online?

Thanks a bunch.

I’ll answer your second question first. Yes, some diamonds are more brilliant than others. But that is a function of the quality (cut, color, clarity). An educated buyer can make the right decisions. That is where we come in.

I love this diamond for you. Its superbly cut, eye-clean and would look great in that solitaire setting. What do you think?

Thank you for the quick response! I looked at the diamond that you have sent the link to. The dimensions look great and its well within color range H-J that you recommend for rounds. I’m a little concerned about the inclusions and the while I’m not an expert and do not know how eye-clean compares to 10x view, I’m hesitant that the wisps are centered below the table. I’ve linked a few i found, but if you have anything else that you view as fitting what I’m looking for i would love to see it. Thanks so much for the help you’re giving me.

If you still think the one you originally linked is a nicer diamond, thats the one I’ll look into.

I am confident the 1.06ct is eye-clean. The 1.01 is not. I like the 0.96ct as well.

Well it looks like i missed the opportunity on both of the 1.06ct and the .96ct. I browsed for a while and found these. if any of them stand out as a good find let me know. unfortunately neither of them look as good as the ones you suggested, so if you stumble across something i would love the help. Thanks for your time again!

I prefer the VS2. They are both great choices, but the VS2 is just slightly better cut.

I ordered the VS2 today. I will let you know how it goes for the rest of the process. Thanks for all your help!

Sounds great. Keep me posted.
