Hi, I’m shopping around for an engagement ring. I want to buy this diamond in a yellow gold halo setting. www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.02-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-2031746?a_aid=dmnd1357
My budget for the diamond is $3,300. Is that the best diamond I can get? Please advise me, thank you!
This is one of the cases when an I color diamond is a border line. We usually recommend an H color stone into this style of setting. The stone you found is really beautiful, very well cut and eye-clean. If you like it, I think it’s a good choice.
Thanks for the reply!I searched James Allen for hours and I believe it was the best diamond for $3,300. I made the purchase a few minutes ago!
That’s great news.
Let me know how you like the ring once it arrives.
Will do, but I’m thinking of calling them up and changing the stone because I feel I could go with a K Color and save about $800. I chose a yellow gold pave halo setting for the ring. I found a K-IF for about $870 less and it looks just as nice as the I-VS2 I originally selected for my order. What do you think? Please advise me, thank you!
…
Here’s the new stone I’m thinking about www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.01-carat-k-color-if-clarity-sku-1956608?a_aid=dmnd1357
I believe I should have gone with this diamond since the cushion cut will absorb the yellow gold of the ring anyways. I can’t justify spending the extra $870 for the I color stone I originally selected now. Even this other stone here www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.01-carat-k-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-382217?a_aid=dmnd1357 would be great I think!
I would not recommend a K color cushion cut diamond, especially for that setting. As I mentioned before, I color is already pushing it color-wise. We generally recommend H color for halo settings: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/color/
If you like the yellowish look to the diamond, then its worth considering. But that is usually not what people want.
Thank you. Yea, I’m going to wait to see the ring with the I color.
Sounds great. Please let me know how it looks when it arrives.
