Hi there. Firstly, many thanks for the wealth of helpful information presented on your site. I am trying to identify the best Asscher cut diamond for the following setting:
www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/platinum-octagon-halo-diamond-engagement-ring-item-50004?a_aid=dmnd1357
I think I’ve essentially narrowed it down to 2 choices:
1. www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/platinum-octagon-halo-diamond-engagement-ring-item-50004?a_aid=dmnd1357
Of the above, which do you feel would be the better value for money diamond? My own untrained eyes can’t identify too much difference in terms of performance so I’m tempted to go for the higher carat diamond. Alternatively, would you be able to provide any recommendations of your own. I’m working to a budget of a around $1600 – $2000 for the diamond.
Many thanks.
Both stones you found are beautiful and they both have great overall specifications.
Have a look at this diamond:

It’s also very well cut, eye-clean and an H color stone is going to look colorless: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/color/.
Let me know what you think.
Many thanks indeed for the quick response and the information provided.
The diamond you recommended looks fantastic. Other than the colour the only difference that seem to stand out to me are the slightly thicker girdle and higher depth %. Do you think these would have a noticeable impact on performance when compared to the other stones?
Would you suggest that your recommendation is the best choice out of the three? It’s also interesting that it’s around $500 cheaper than the more expensive of the two I found so may represent better value for money?
Many thanks.
As for the girdle, it’s an issue that has little to no impact on the visual appearance of the diamond. You should avoid the extremely thick/thin ones, otherwise you are fine.
Regarding the depth, after double checking, I’d say that the 0.73 carat stone you found has a better cut and I’d stick with that one. I noticed that this stone is not available at the moment. Did you put it on hold?
Yes, I did and have now gone through with the purchase with the 0.73 carat stone.
Thanks again for providing such quick and helpful advice.
That’s fantastic news! It was my pleasure helping you.
Let me know how you like the ring once it arrives.
