Hi,
I have decided to a James Allen engagement ring setting as follows – Infinity solitaire, in 14k white gold:
www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/14k-white-gold-infinity-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-53313?a_aid=dmnd1357
Could I get some help with selecting the diamond?
I am thinking round brilliant, ideal cut, eye clean, ?near colourless or colourless since its white gold setting, at least SI1 or VS2? Budget up to 5k but flexible. And I am from Singapore.
Much thanks.
Hi. It’s nice to hear from you again. Here’s my suggestion:

The stone is very well cut, eye-clean and going to look colorless.

What do you think?
Your choice looks good, but I was wondering whether the ring would look better with an SIl bigger diamond, and slightly higher colour grade as the complete ring review on the website appears slightly coloured. I understand from your website articles that this may not be very evident in real life, as well as it costing more.
For example:
1) www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.92-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2763016?a_aid=dmnd1357
Thanks.
Color is very difficult to distinguish on a screen as the photo can distort it a bit. For the vast majority of our readers in I color going to look colorless. Unless you’re extremely color sensitive, I’d go for an I color stone.
Also, I’m afraid that the G color stone is not eye-clean.
Do you want to see a bigger I color stone, too? What’s the maximum budget you want to spend for the stone?
I see, so I should just stay with I color stone.
Sure, maximum budget 5k.
Would it be possible to see a I color vs G color stone of your recommendations? Purely to convince myself.
Much thanks!
I’m not saying that you should stick with an I color stone. If you don’t feel comfortable with it, here’s a G color stone with the quality I’d recommend:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.90-carat-g-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2654102?a_aid=dmnd1357
I just don’t see a reason for you to pay the extra buck without getting any extra benefit. But if you like this stone more, go for it.
Having tried to compare both your recommendations, I see what you mean by the minimal or no difference when it comes to colour.
Is there a difference between the cut of the 2 diamonds? The I color one appears better cut, but also appears to have slightly more inclusions.
Will make a decision soon between the I or G diamonds, thanks, do let me know if you come across any other better diamonds.
My budget is flexible around the 5k region.
Thanks for your advice.
As for the I color stone, I found another option that’s superior in clarity grade and it’s less expensive:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.90-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2627264?a_aid=dmnd1357
I like this stone the most. As it’s less expensive and the overall specifications maximize your budget. The feather on the other I color stone was quite stretching the grade. So this is a better way to go.
If you still feel more comfortable with the G color grade, go for it. The stone is also beautiful.
Thanks for your recommendations!
I have gone ahead to purchase the I coloured stone that you recommended. I have used this email.
Much thanks for your help! Will let you know how it looks once it arrives.
That’s fantastic news!
Please let me know how you like the stone once it arrives.
