Thanks so much for your timely response!
I sent a second message, after looking more deeply into your site, and contacting James Allen.
They’ve recommended a slightly smaller set, with a bit higher grading:
Item # 28008WCY
18K White Gold Four Prong Earring Settings
Price: $210.00
Item # 2014457
Round 0.43 carat G SI2 clarity diamond GIA
Price: $900.00
Item # 2014500
Round 0.43 carat G SI2 clarity diamond GIA
Price: $900.00
Tax: $0.00
Shipping: $0.00
Coupon Discount: ($100.00)
Wire Transfer (1.5% Off): ($29.00)
—————————————————————–
Subtotal: $1,881.00
Total: $1,881.00
All funds displayed in US Dollars.
Given that they’re for earrings, what’s the best value comparison? Smaller size, but higher grading, at a lower cost (Allen) or larger, lower grading, with a higher price?
Do I care about 14K vs 18K gold for the setting? Seems like a minor difference…
Planning on making a decision today, so there’s plenty of lead time for delivery.
Thanks!!!
For the metal, we recommend WG over PT. The reason is the huge disparity in upfront costs. As our article says, the WG has to be dipped every few years and the platinum needs to be polished as well because it scratches. So ultimately, platinum costs you more in the beginning and doesn’t end up saving you any money in the long run.
The clarity is slightly stretching but I think that they can be used for earrings.
As for the color, I’d personally stick with I. It’s going to look colorless and I don’t see a reason for you to pay extra for the color grade without getting an additional benefit.
Let me know what you decide.
Hi,
Had a few minutes at work, took a closer look at the set you recommended.
For the second stone, looks like the image is just a sample?
Wasn’t sure how to evaluate the match, if it wasn’t an actual item image.

Thanks!
……
Hi, thanks for the discount code and your suggestions.
I’m not sure we were 100% on the same page regarding what I was looking for, but appreciate the effort.
Have purchased the following:
Stock #: LD08330302
Stock #: LD07424178
Total carat weight: 0.90
Round, Ideal-cut, G-color, SI2-clarity
Price for the pair, exclusive of mounting, before discount & tax was $1630.
Diamonds in studs need to match in the following specifications (color the same, fluorescence the same, depth and table % can differ in 1%).
There’s no need to see a real picture of VS1+ diamonds but it’s very important to see a real image of stones with SI clarity grade. We want to make sure that the inclusions are not eye-visible. Since most of the SI2 stones are not eye-clean, I wouldn’t go for diamonds with this grade without seeing a real picture.
I understand that you want eye-clean and colorless stones. In our experience, I color diamonds are going to look colorless and anything above H is a waste.

I apologize that I didn’t answer before you made the purchase. But since there’s a high chance that the inclusions on the stones will be eye-visible, I’d change the order. It should be possible if you contact BN directly.
If you want to save the extra buck, I’d go for this pair:
Blue Nile FLD08110741
Blue Nile FLD08055542
Keep me posted.
This was exactly the assistance I was looking for!
After I placed the order last night, I was still a bit concerned about the match between unseen stones and the possibility that they’d not be eye-clean.
You’ve addressed both those questions, and I appreciate and understand your explanation regarding the trade-off on the color rating. The price difference was well within my budget. It’s worth it to resolve the questions about unseen stones and possible visible inclusions.
I just got off the phone with Blue Nile, and they’ve moved forward the request to the swap the order to the stones you suggested. One unanticipated benefit is that it appears these will actually arrive sooner than the original set.
Thanks very much. Happy I followed up!
I’m happy to hear that we finally found what you were looking for!
