I found a round 2.0 carat diamond rated H I2, excellent cut and symmetry. After reading your reviews I was spooked by the I2 rating. I know many retailers don’t carry them. Should I avoid it?
I assume it wasn’t certified by the GIA lab, was it?
Yes it did have a card with all of the grading information on it
Can you send me the certificate number? It would help a ton.
Oh, it’s GSI not GIA.
Thank you for he info.
GSI is not a legitimate lab so I would definitely stay away from that diamond. You would never know what the real grades are and what’s the real value. Stick to GIA or AGS stones.
I returned that diamond and ordered one from Blue Nile.
Do you want me to review the diamond you ordered? Just to make sure there are no issues with it.
Yes, I would love for you to review it!
Blue Nile LD13968123
Uh. Can you still change the order? That diamond is not such a great option as it’s very poorly cut.
I believe I can. Is there something specific about the cut?
Yes. For a round brilliant I wouldn’t settle for anything less than an EX (Ideal) cut as the cut is what makes the diamond brilliant and beautiful. You should keep the depth % close to 60 and it should never exceed 62.6%. The diamond you selected is cut VERY deep and would lose a lot of its brilliance (it would also look smaller than a very well cut option with the same carat weight).
Would you like me to find a better option? May I ask what style setting do you want to put the diamond into?
Yes, thank you! 14k white gold ring.
Is the ring going to be a solitaire or are there additional diamonds in the band or around the center stone?
Solitaire.
Solitaire setting allows you to go with a lower color grade and still have the colorless impression. There are no additional diamonds that would make a color difference. You can easily go with an I or even a J color with no problems at all.
Is ~$11k your maximum budget for the diamond? Because I found some beautiful options within that price range, but they were lower in carats. A decent 2ct H/I-color diamond would run about ~15k.
$11k-$15k is ok, thanks.
Great. Have a look at these:
Blue Nile LD14304153
Blue Nile LD14405343 – this diamond has an absolutely perfect cut, it would have a lot of added brilliance. The group of inclusions on its 3 o’clock can be hidden under a prong. It’s a gorgeous option that would make an amazing ring.
I’ll go ahead with the second one.
Thanks.
That’s great news, I’m glad you liked my recommendation so much!
