Q&A: Finding the Perfect Round Diamond for an Engagement Ring for $4,000 Budget

By Mike Fried,

I am so happy that I have came across your website. I have been searching/looking at diamonds and rings off and on over the last few months but the time has come and it is really time for me to make a purchase. I will be proposing to my girlfriend within the next month or so and I really feel the pressure of finding the right ring/diamond soon! I have been all over the place, looked in my local stores, online.. There seem to be so many options that I dont know what is right and what is not.. I have a budged of about $4000. I was hoping to purchase a round diamond ring that is approximately .75CT. I have contacted various vendors and I am currently shopping around but I still dont know what to do from here.. What is a good deal, what isnt.. I am hoping to hear from you soon, I am sure you get a ton of emails a day and it may take a few days to hear back from you. I want to thank you in advance for your help.

I’d be happy to make some recommendations and guide you through the process. What shape diamond and what type of setting are you considering? Yellow gold or white gold/platinum? Will it be a solitaire or does it have sidestones/pave? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).

Let me know and I’d be happy to send you some suggestions.

Thank you very much for your reply.

As far as what kind of diamond I have been looking for. I will send you a few examples of what I have come across so far:

I have sent out a few requests through pricescope and this was one of the replies I have received.

As you can tell I am looking at a round diamond. Preferably .75CT or larger if at all possible. This will be in seated in a white gold ring. Also, my fiance really likes the side stones on the ring – a few tiny ones on each side of the diamond.

Thank you again and I hope to hear from you soon.

Why not go for more size?

As we explain in our color page, its a waste to spend money on an E color.
