Thanks for developing this forum, it has been a great source of information, and prevented me from probably making some big mistakes!
I am shopping for two identical rings. The settings will be white gold with pave settings. We haven’t chosen the exact settings yet, but will be similar to
Blue Nile Petite Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring
First, I’m curious if there any things I should be aware of when buying loose diamonds separate from the setting, and having a local jeweler set the ring?
Second, before I try to find two similar stones, what is the approximate price difference between a nice eye clean 1 carat and a 1.25 carat? We are trying to decide whether to stay just south of one carat or just south of 1.25 carats. Thanks in advance!
The difference in prices between 1ct and 1.25ct is around $2,000. You can find decent 1ct round diamond over 5k.
Do you want me to make some suggestions for you? Generally speaking, we are not fans of Blue Nile: http://www.diamonds.pro/reviews/blue-nile/
Thanks. I’m aware of your take on Blue Nile, that’s actually why I wrote you. I have read about everything you have posted and I am honestly thankful that I did before I blindly bought.
With a little more research, we’ve picked the setting. It is a platinum or white gold pave band. The side stones state they are F/G in color.

So, please help me find 2 stones, as similar as possible since I am trying to make two “identical” rings. I’d love to go as large as I can between 1 and 1.25 carats, but keep cost of center stone to $7,000 or less. Is there any more info I can give you?
…
Hi again, I just had a nice chat conversation with the folks at JA, who said they can set the stones for me in a Brian Gavin setting. So, I think that’s what I’ll do.
As for stones, how about your opinion on these two:
I looked at G color, because the setting says the side stones are F/G. I’d love your take on these two, or your opinion on which two similar diamonds I should buy around1.25 cts each, and staying around $7,500 per diamond.
I love the 1.20ct over the 1.19 (I don’t think that one is eye-clean).
That one looks great.
Sweet. I bought them both.
Thank you for your help.
Sounds great. Please let me know how they look when they arrive.
