Q&A: Finding a 1.2 to 1.4 Ct. Diamond for a Pave Halo Platinum Setting with a ~$10-11,000 Budget

By Mike Fried,

Greetings! I have heard good things about your site, thus I am seeking some help in choosing a diamond for an engagement ring.

My budget for the stone itself is ~$10-11,000. I plan on getting this set in a platinum band with diamonds along the side and a diamond halo.

Right now the settings that I am considering are: https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/platinum-pave-halo-and-twisted-shank-solitaire-item-17463?a_aid=dmnd1357

and

The stone that I set in this will preferably be an ideal cut round diamond in the 1.2 to 1.4 carat range (My girlfriend wants something large, but I want to make sure that it is a good diamond, not just a big one). I am struggling a bit with color and clarity, but I would like something that is “eye clean” and doesn’t have any noticeably imperfections to the naked eye. My concern with the color is that there will be a stark contrast between the center stone and the smaller diamonds on the band. I don’t know how likely that is but that is something that has been weighing on me.

I hope that is enough information. Thanks!

Just as an update, I think I have decided on the exact setting I want: https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/platinum-pave-halo-shoulders-engagement-ring-round-center-item-17514?a_aid=dmnd1357

It is pretty similar to the two I mentioned earlier.

Thanks again for your assistance. Let me know if you have any questions or need any additional info.

I like these options. Would you say that all of them are eye-clean?

My only other question would be, with F-G color diamonds in the halo, will there be any kind of contrast with an H center stone? Or is one color grade not noticeable?

Thanks again for all your help!

I’m not sure about the third one, but the first two are. And the H color is perfectly fine. That is what we always recommend for JA settings and have never gotten a complaint.

Ok great. Thanks for the advice, I think I am going to get one of the 1.3 carat diamonds then.

Sounds good. Let me know how it looks when it arrives.
