Q&A: Choosing a Round Diamond for a Solitaire Setting Within a $5k-$6k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi! My boyfriend and I are very excited to start our journey of finding the perfect ring. We recently moved from NYC to the Philadelphia area and have both begun to thrive in our careers, are able to spend more time with family here and we are loving the quieter life outside of NYC. That being said, we have discussed engagement and will be shopping together to find the perfect ring. Here are our specs:

1) Approximate budget for the diamond – $5,000-$6,000
2) The color of metal in the setting we plan to use – 18k gold
3) The style of the setting – thin solitaire, no other diamonds.

Thanks for your help!

I’d be happy to help. What shape do you want?

I am open but prefer round or radiant cut. I really appreciate your help!

It looks great! I was looking at the GIA certification and noticed it had a “feather” in the clarity section. What does that mean? Is that something that could be seen?

Thanks so much for your help!

That means the inclusion is a feather. It’s fine. It doesn’t have any other meaning.
