I am looking for a round cut diamond that will be mounted in a simple white gold solitaire setting. The diamond must be really shiny to the naked eye so I am trying to find the right combination of color and cut. Can you help recommending the right “diameter” to allow the stone to shine bright? I’m hoping to keep my budget under the 5k for the ring with a stone larger than .75.
Just to make sure we’re on the same page, are you using a solitaire setting? In that case, J color is what I’d recommend and it looks great.
I looked around and here are some options you might like:
Blue Nile LD07995522
This diamond is fantastically cut, eye-clean and will be very brilliant in any solitaire setting you choose.
Or, if brilliance is what you care about the most, I’d recommend Brian Gavin Diamonds. He is known as one of the worlds experts when it comes to perfectly cut diamonds. BGD’s Signature diamonds are truly fantastic. They are all incredibly brilliant. We saw their diamonds in person and were truly amazed. However, you have to decide if the added brilliance is worth the premium to you.
I searched their inventory, but it’s not as big as the BN’s, so this is the only diamond I can recommend from them:

It’s superbly cut.
Let me know your thoughts.
Hi, I am hoping you can help with a few more follow-up questions.
I feel like I want to shop around me to find a jeweler who will set a stone I get online versus getting the whole ring online. Would you recommend getting the complete ring from the online vendor?
As for using a white gold solitaire setting, it was my impression that I needed to have a color quality of H-I as J might show up a bit yellowish on the white gold?
After reading a bit more of the Diamond Pro website it’s my understanding that 1.00 carat is a big price jump. Are there any stones in the .90-.99 range with great brilliance that you can recommend for comparison?
Thanks.
Thank you for the kind words.
It’s always easier to buy both the setting and the loose diamond from the same vendor. They’ll set it for you and you’ll receive a complete ring. However, if you know a jeweler who would be willing to set the ring for you (and it’s what you prefer), go that route. Whatever suits you more.
Color-wise, J color is our usual recommendation for a solitaire setting and it looks great. There are no additional diamonds in the band that might make the difference in colors noticeable.
Here’s my new recommendation, the specs are great on it:
Blue Nile LD07991559
Thoughts?
I am more comfortable with the idea of getting the ring done from the same vendor now and have read more up on the diamond pro site. I found this setting on James Allen that I think my GF will like:
I am hoping you could assist with recommendations from them since it looks like you get photos for all of the diamonds? If you could do one stone around .90 and one at 1.00?
That would be super helpful! Thank you.
Alright.
This would be my recommendation then:

They look great to me.
Thanks for the recommendations. I purchased this stone:

with the same email here I have been in contact with you.
Looking forward to seeing it in person. Thanks!
That’s great news. You got yourself a beautiful diamond.
I hope you’ll love it when you receive it. I’d love to see the finished product. If you can send me the link to the completed ring (James Allen will email you a link when with a photo), I’d appreciate it.
I received the ring and it looks great! Very happy with the whole packaging and presentation done by James Allen. I did not receive a link to the completed ring before it arrived though.
Thanks anyway. I’m glad you are happy with it!
