Q&A: Choosing the Right Round Diamond for Tiffany Style Ring with Around $12k Budget

By Mike Fried,

I am looking for a diamond for a solitaire platinum ring. Price for around 10.000€ and it would be really great if you could help me finding the right diamond with great value for the money. We are not in a hurry but I wanted to start to look for it to find the “perfect” one.

I’d be happy to make some recommendations for you, but I need a little more info.

What shape diamond are you looking for?

Hi, I am looking for a classical round cut diamond.

Great, thank you for the additional info.

I looked around and this would be my recommendation:
Blue Nile Classic Four Claw Solitaire Engagement Ring

We don’t think you should waste money on platinum: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/platinum-vs-gold/

Blue Nile LD09148179
J color is our usual choice for a solitaire setting. This diamond is fantastically cut and will be very brilliant.

Or, if you’re looking for something truly unique, then I’d recommend Brian Gavin’s diamonds. Brian Gavin is an excellent choice. He is known as one of the worlds experts when it comes to perfectly cut diamonds. BGD’s Signature diamonds are truly fantastic. They are all incredibly brilliant.

This would be my recommendation from their collection:
Brian Gavin Four Prong Solitaire

It’s superbly cut and will be extremely brilliant.

What do you think?

Hi, thank you for the 2 diamonds.

Can you say me the most visible difference between those 2 diamonds when seen in daily life? So I don’t mean under the zoom, I mean when worn on the finger.

And what about James Allen? I read that they are normaly your first choice?

You’re welcome. Both of the diamonds will have a lot of fire, but the BGD’s stone will have a lot of added brilliance thanks to its stunning cut.

Choosing one company over the other always depends on our readers’ needs and requirements and since you are located in Europe, Blue Nile would be my first choice (they are based in Europe (they have an office in Ireland) so you won’t pay any import fees, just the regular VAT (21%). The Brian Gavin diamond is just an alternative in case you wanted something truly special.

Do you want to see some JA’s suggestions as well?

Hi, okay thank you. The BG Diamond is already sold.
Do you know the import fees to Europe?

About the setting, can you tell me which Blue Nile setting is most similar to the classic Tiffany setting?

Here’s a new one:

Regarding the fees, just ask their custom service. They are more suited for that than us and will tell you more.

And here’s the setting that looks very much like the Tiffany’s one:
Blue Nile Classic Comfort Fit Solitaire Engagement Ring

Ask them if they could make it with six prongs.
