Hello,
I’m starting to shop for an engagement ring. I’ve read a lot of posts on your site as well as others, but I’m having second thoughts about buying a diamond from James Allen. I’m looking to buy a pear shaped diamond around 1 carat in size in the $3-$5k range, and could use some help to pick the best diamond possible. I have a trusted jeweler that I can use to set the stone, but I won’t pay retail for the stone. I’m having trouble pulling the trigger on such an important purchase over the internet.
Thanks for all the helpful information you provide.
We have had great experiences with James Allen. They sell GIA certified diamonds and we love their zoomed videos where you can see all the imperfections on the diamond. We know they offer a good quality and service.
I searched their website and I love these diamonds for you:

They are well cut, eye-clean and either of them will make a beautiful ring.
What do you think?
Thanks so much.
Do you think the .9 carat stone will be big enough on her finger? I’m looking at a halo setting, which will help make the overall profile of the ring wider. She always says how her rings that aren’t very wide make her fingers look weird, so I want to be sure that the ring will have near full coverage of her finger from the top view. If it helps, she’s 5’3″ and her ring size is 6.5.
You’re welcome.
Unfortunately, I can’t really help you with the question about size. It’s completely subjective. Some large fingered women have gotten tiny diamonds and been happy, while some readers with tiny fingers considered a 3 ct diamond “too small”. There is no norm.
Halo setting is a bonus here for sure. They are made to make the center stone look larger.

I’ve been looking at pictures online trying to determine what looks right… Do you think you’d be able to find me a couple options with my previous specs but between .8 and .9 carat with a table as close to 60% as possible?
Thanks!
Something like this?

So sorry, I just realized I said table when I meant depth. I was trying to get the depth as close to 60% as possible.
How do you feel about them?
What do you think about this one? Does it pass the eye clean test?

Sure, it’s beautiful. I like it a lot.
