I’m searching for a diamond for an engagement ring. I’m partial to a pear shape but don’t really know where to begin as there are many retailers out there. I have done some research and learned the basics of what to look for but am unsure if there are any other factors I should be considering. My budget is around $2300-2500 USD for the stone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I looked around and I like this diamond for you:
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/pear-shaped/0.75-carat-h-color-vs1-clarity-sku-2125113?a_aid=dmnd1357
It’s well cut, eye-clean and bright. It’ll be very brilliant.
What do you think?
Thanks for the advice. To be honest I have been looking at a few other and I was leaning towards going with a smaller stone of higher grade. Although I like the size, the one you have recommended has an H color rating and from the research I have done a pear cut diamond is more prone to show color so the closer I can get to a D rating the better. I have my been looking at something more like this:
Blue Nile LD08332570
My girlfriend has quite small slender hands so I’m not sure she would need a .75 stone and the one I’ve sent you seems to have top ratings across the board. Would you still say the James Allen stone is a better buy?
Thanks!
You’re welcome.
You are right, pear cut diamonds tend to show their true color more, that’s why we recommend H color at the lowest to make sure there won’t be any warmish tones in it. We have also done our research and based on our expertise and experiences, the difference in colors isn’t usually recognizable from anything above an H grade (once the diamond is set and talking GIA diamonds).
The diamond you sent me is nicely cut and has great specs, but you have to ask for its photo. Some pears have a bad bow-tie (the black figure running through the diamond). A bow-tie typically appears on oval or pear shape diamonds and is undesirable.
