Hi, the diamond I am ideally looking for is an oval with a maximum price of around $8,000 on James Allen. From what I can tell finding a round diamond appears easier and I don’t want to fall down when picking an oval. any advice would be much appreciated.
I’d be happy to make some recommendations for you, but I need a little more info.
What style setting (solitaire, pave/side stones/halo) and metal (yellow/white gold, platinum) do you want to use? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).
Apologies for the delay. I will be looking for a solitaire in yellow gold. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Great, thanks for the info.
I looked around and I love these two diamonds for you:

H color is our usual recommendation for ovals. This diamond is well cut, eye-clean and looks great to me.
Also, I found this beautiful F-color diamond that’s only $110 more and I just love its shape:

It would make a beautiful ring.
What do you think?
They look great. We are due to close on a condo in the next week, as soon as that is out of the way I will have the funds to make a purchase 🙂
Visually would there be a big difference between and F and A H?
I think I will likely go with something at this price range, but if I were to drop to between $6500-7000 what difference would that make? Would it generally just be a smaller carat?
Thanks for your help.
Good for you 🙂
There’s no visual difference between an H and an F, I just thought you might be interested in seeing all the choices there were in your budget. Also, some people like the idea of having a higher quality diamond, although, as I said, the difference is not recognizable. On the other hand, it is true that that diamond was slightly better shaped.

This diamond is beautifully cut and will make a fantastic ring as well. If you put the diamonds, unmounted, side by side on a piece of white paper, the difference in size would be noticeable. In the real world, when someone puts the diamond on their finger, you won’t notice it.
Thoughts?
I love all three. Would you say cut wise they are all very similar in quality?
I am glad I have you for assistance, otherwise I am just lost in a sea of shiny things haha!
I’m glad you like them.
Cut-wise, well, cut is the most important aspect of a diamond, so it’s the main thing we focus on in the ‘picking out the right diamond’ process. They are all well cut.
