Q&A: Choosing a Fiery and Brilliant Cushion Cut Diamond With Around $5k Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hello, I read your article and am looking to get the discount code you mentioned for Blue Nile or James Allen, thanks!!

Here is the BN code for $50 off of a purchase over 1k: [contact us for your own unique coupon code]. According to BN, this is the best coupon they are offering right now. I hope it helps.

Let me know if you need any help with the search. I’d be more than happy to help.

I would like to take you up on offer to help! I’m looking for a cushion cut, I’m concerned with the quality of the sparkle and the size. I have about $6000 Canadian to spend and hoping to get .9 with perfect cut. I was considering the Brian Gavin .7 signature but, feel it will be too small on my hand.

I’m not sure what your offer to help is, but hope that gives you an idea of what I’m looking for!

Thanks for the details.

I’m assuming you’re looking for a perfectly square cushion, correct?

I had emailed you earlier today. I believe I have narrowed it down to these two diamonds. The Brian Gavin would be $7100 and the WhiteFlash $6800.

What would you recommend?

Thanks!

……

Yes, did you get my follow up email with the two I narrowed it down to?

I just read it, thanks for mentioning it.

I’d definitely go with Brian Gavin. Their cushions look amazing and their service is fantastic.
I’m really sorry, but we will not comment on White Flash under any circumstances. We have had terrible personal experiences with them that a) make us feel no one should ever buy from them and b) precludes us from being objective about them.

Noted thank you!

My pleasure. Let me know how it goes.

Do you think colour H is ok, set in platinum? I currently have an F. Will the difference be noticeable? I can probably go to F or G but, come down in carat size from 1 to .9? Thoughts?

If you’re willing to go to the G color, then you can easily purchase an H as well. There is no visible difference between these two color grades.

There might be a slight difference when comparing an F and H side by side, but it would be very minimal. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Both of them look amazing. How much is the JA diamond?

You seem to be looking for the best cut possible, in which case, I’m still in favor of Brian Gavin.

The James Allen is $7000 .85 with duty and taxes and the Brian Gavin $7200 .815

……

Sorry here are a few more thoughts. The BG doesn’t seem as clean as the JA (obviously they are both nice) but, the BG you seem to be able to see the inclusions more. My main concern is I want it to sparkle! The JA I read with 35cra/40.6pa is cut for fire and the BG at 34.9/40.7 closer to the cut that produces balance between sparkle and fire.

Also do you think the JA could be hearts and arrow?

All Brian Gavin’s diamonds are incredibly brilliant. He makes sure that every Signature diamond he offers has the best cut possible (which equals the best brilliance). Both diamonds will look amazing, but because you’re focusing on brilliance, I recommend BGD.
