Hi, I’m deciding on an engagement ring which I plan to buy from Blue Nile. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on this stone:
Blue Nile LD07070739
Also, can you suggest a setting that will further highlight the diamond. My girlfriend’s ring size is 4.5.
Thank you.
The stone you found is beautiful. At the same time, as much as we love BN, we don’t really pay too much attention to their Signature Cuts. We don’t think that you should pay extra without getting an additional benefit.
I found this 0.74 carat stone, beautifully cut with great overall specifications: Blue Nile LD08148418
It’s significantly bigger for almost the same price.
Let me know what you decide.
Thank you for your reply and for your recommendation. However, I am not really comfortable buying something that I don’t see. Instead, a “sample photo” is what I’m given. Also, I’m really set in getting the best possible cut within my budget even if that means buying a smaller carat. Do you also work with Whiteflash? Would you recommend them over Blue Nile in terms of cut?
Unfortunately we have had terrible personal experiences with White Flash and will not comment on their diamonds. Our experiences a) make us feel that no one should ever trust them and b) preclude us from being objective.
We are happy to comment on any diamonds you find from any other company out there or select diamonds for you from companies we have vetted properly.
If an extraordinary brilliance is what you’re looking for then I I’d suggest Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows. That’s exactly what they focus on and you can be sure that you’ll receive the best of diamonds. Not only do these conform to the strictest of cut parameters, but Brian himself selects them for optimal brilliance. Brian Gavin is known as one of the worlds experts when it comes to perfectly cut diamonds. If you want to spend extra on their cut, it’s a great way to go. Here is a great choice from BGD:
An H color diamond is going to look colorless in any style of settings: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/color/
Thank you for the recommendation. For the size that I’m thinking of (0.60ct to 0.75ct), would the premium of buying a Signature Brian Gavin be noticeable or could I go for James Allen’s “True Hearts” and go for a bigger diamond? Also, James Allen’s settings are cheaper compared to Brian Gavin’s.
Diamonds from BGD return light with extraordinary brilliance. The BGD diamonds are definitely more brilliant than a selection we make from JA (True Hearts) or BN (Signature Cuts).
It’s up to you, if you prefer to focus on the cut or size.
Thank you for recommending BGD. I am now on the final stages of choosing a diamond and setting. Do you guys have an available voucher code I can use in BGD?
For reference, this is the diamond and setting that I will be buying. Your opinion will be appreciated.

The diamond you found is beautiful. It has great overall specifications and I didn’t find a better option for you at the moment. If you like it, go for it.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any coupon code for BGD. I suggest contacting them directly. They might have a discount for you.
Let me know how you like the diamond ring once it arrives.
