Q&A: Choosing an Asscher Cut Diamond for a Mixed Metal Custom Made Setting With a $3500 Budget

By Mike Fried,

I am not wanting to spend over $3500 for the stone. I have designed a ring my self and am having a family friend who is a silversmith make it. Attached is a very crude sketch of my design. The ring will be a silver or white gold AND Rose Gold. It will feature a wrench head on the silver side with a diamond “checkered flag” and a horse shoe on the rose gold side with a paisley pattern engraving. I am also considering having colored stones inset at the head of each paisley “comma” shape.

The wrench head and horseshoe will appear to be holding the diamond. I have visited a few retail stores but feel that I can get a better deal elsewhere due to cutting out the middle man.

Thank you for your help with my search!

Thank you for your suggestions. Will there be any differences between those two diamonds noticeable to the naked eye? How would they compare to each other in physical size?

Honestly, the 0.90ct is better cut so there won’t be any noticeable size gain. https://www.diamonds.pro/education/carat-weight/

I think the H VS1 is a much better choice.
