I found your site and it seems to have lots of information but not much on Oval diamonds. My girlfriend seem to like them the best and it seems that you get more for your money with a oval diamond. Is there anything particular I need to look for with a oval? I am looking to spend around 2,500 to 3,000 on the stone. I was using Blue Nile but after what I read from you I would rather go to James Allen, the only problem is the setting she likes is at Blue Nile. Here is the setting and diamond that I found on Blue Nile that she likes. What can you tell me about this diamond? Thanks for your help.
Is this setting that much different?

The only difference is the top of the head. You can contact JA and ask if they can do something similar to the BN one.
Thats seems like a really small difference either way. You can’t get an oval diamond diamond without a photo. A slight difference in the head of the setting is less important than that.
That setting says it can’t have a oval diamond but the good news is she found one she likes at JA now.

And this one

But I picked out a diamond and would like your advice on it.

Is this diamond good? Or would you recommend any other one. She now wants a more expensive setting so it would be nice to get a diamond around this price.
I do not like that diamond. The shape is very nice but a) I’d be concerned with a J color oval in a halo setting and b) its not eye-clean.
I’d recommend this one if you can stretch your budget a bit:

Thanks, just one questions, what do you mean by eye-clean? What makes it eye-clean?
The black streaks on the right upper quadrant of the diamond you selected will be visible when your partner shows off her ring to her friends. Most diamonds have inclusions that can be seen under close inspection. The trick is to avoid glaringly apparent ones that will distract peoples attention away from the general beauty of the diamond.
I see what you mean,
Thanks for all your help.
My pleasure. Let me know how it looks when it arrives.
