Hello!
I first just wanted to say thank you for your awesome site! Being completely new to buying an engagement ring was overwhelming at first, but your site really helped me figure out what I should look for and where I should look. I didn’t know about James Allen before, but after looking after your suggestion I think I definitely found the setting that I’m looking for.
I was hoping you could offer a little more specific advice for the diamond I am looking for.
I plan to buy an oval diamond for this 14K ROSE GOLD PETITE PAVE CROWN DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING
I think that I want at least 1 carat, but not necessarily sold on that. My budget would be up to around $6,000 but am looking to see what the best bang for the buck is and what price range that would be. What should I be looking for as far as clarity, color, etc. to get a beautiful diamond that I know she’ll love?
I would really appreciate any advice you can offer! Thanks again for the great content!

Both of them are very well cut, colorless and with great overall specs.

What do you think?
Overall I like the diamond choices, I was wondering if you could maybe provide an option or two somewhere in the middle of those two options though?
I had another question around the process as well.
I am 4 months out from popping the question. I want to see the diamond and ring in person before that just to make sure that in person it’s what I’m looking for, but if I purchase now, I would void the opportunity to do free resizing if for some reason it isn’t the perfect fit, or worst case (which I wouldn’t expect to happen) my girlfriend would prefer a different style, etc.
I have worked with her roommate to get the size, style, etc. so I feel confident, but I don’t want to be stuck buying it so soon before I actually ask.
Do I buy one now to make sure it’s what I’m looking for and potentially return it within the 30 days and then purchase again when it’s closer to asking?
Thank you for the additional info.
I’d personally wait a little and I’d purchase closer to your planned proposal (a month before). In case you don’t like something about the ring, you can return it and we can quickly find another option. That is my suggestion. What do you think?
The 1.10+ carat stones I found were not eye-clean or had visible bow-tie effect. So I’d still go for either a 1.00+ carat or this 1.20 carat stone. I will let you know if I find another option for you.
I was trying to look at the original options you sent me and they are no longer available. Are there any other diamonds around the 1.00+ range that you would recommend?
The issue with the stone you sent is its strong fluorescence. It can cause a hazy look.

Thank you so much for your recommendation – I purchased a ring and just received it last week and I absolutely love it, it’s beautiful.
I really appreciate you taking the time to give me a recommendation and point me in the right direction for what I was looking for!
That’s fantastic news!
I’m very pleased to hear about that! It was my pleasure helping you.
