Q&A: Choosing an Oval Cut Diamond for a Yellow Gold Solitaire Setting With Up to $5,000 Budget

By Mike Fried,

Looking for an engagement right with at least 1 carat, oval shape, solitare, in a yellow gold setting.

Want to stay within a budget of $5k. Can go over to get the right ring.

I found these two diamonds:
Blue Nile LD09947698
Blue Nile LD00052007

Both are eye-clean and will look very bright and brilliant in any YG solitaire setting you may choose.

What do you think?

Thank you for the recommendations. Have looked at them and am impressed. Was curious what you could find with increasing the size of the carat with the same color and clarity up to 2?

Thanks again. Looks like I will stick with the less than 2 carat. Seems the first ones you sent were no longer available. I do apologize for procrastinating. If you could find a diamond within that price range again would be great.

No problem. The largest options I’ve found this time were these two:
Blue Nile LD10092627
www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.12-carat-i-color-if-clarity-sku-4521707?a_aid=dmnd1357
They are beautifully shaped and have a minimal bow-tie.

Like the James Allan one with the size just wanted a little more colorless. Would it be noticeable?

It depends on how color sensitive you are, but generally, most people find I color colorless in a yellow gold solitaire setting.

Bought a diamond from Blue Nile. Thanks for your help!
