I am very new to diamond rings and I am looking to get a ring for the engagement. Below is the offer I received and I want to know if I am getting a good deal or being given a bad diamond for a high price.
The diamond is=D-29185 (0.9 karats, G/SI2 and very good quality). I believe EGA-USA was used for the diamond proof.
The ring itself is close to a N210185CU brand with 14k white gold and 0.3k to 0.35k diamonds in a halo around the diamond and partially down the sides.
The value price I was given was $2400. Your website shows that the diamond itself is valued at around $3300, I assume it is a good deal but I want to make sure.
What site are you looking at? You sent some codes and SKUs but I don’t know what retailer is that.
I obviously don’t know the quality of the diamond without seeing the certificate, but the price is low and that’s because of the EGL cert. It’s one of the worst certificates you can get. https://www.diamonds.pro/education/egl/
It’s better to stay with GIA or AGS to know what you’re buying. Those are the most accurate labs.
I’ve doing some research from what you sent and also from the diamond and mold that I was given a price for. It was a diamond retailer that had a location and was not through any online merchant.
I am trying to budget a ring and diamond around $2500 and based from what I see, the best bet is to find a diamond around the $1500-$1700 range.
What would you suggest? Should I look for one with a color of I and clarity with something below SI2 to fit my price range? I dont want a diamond that’s too small either.
Diamonds below SI2 will most likely have visible inclusions. I’m afraid that there is no chance to get a 0.90ct that has a legit certificate and is properly cut and eye-clean for only 1700. Also, with a halo around the main stone, the diamond should be H+, otherwise it will look yellowish.
Are you looking for a round cut diamond?
I assumed that the cut may be less than .9ct, probably between .7 to .8ct would work?
Halo is what I’m thinking about, but this is just the original idea, I’m still looking for other possible molds. Any diamond below H+ will look yellowish?
Round cut diamonds is what I like, but I do not know if I can better price or quality with other cuts.

I’ve looked at some diamonds and it seems that I’ve found that the princess cut is cheaper for more karats. I’m looking at James Allen, which is a recommended site on your website. This is the diamond that I think would look very nice. What do you think?

Here’s my current thought. The prior ring showed flaws in it that was very noticeable, at least to me.
This is what I found: www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.71-carat-h-color-i1-clarity-sku-4460665?a_aid=dmnd1357
Here’s the mold I plan to use: 14K YELLOW GOLD TWISTED VINE ENGAGEMENT RING
How would the diamond look like with this mold?
I definitely don’t recommend getting that princess cut (www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/0.71-carat-h-color-i1-clarity-sku-4460665?a_aid=dmnd1357). It has a large feather that goes through the bottom right corner and that is a huge risk of the diamond chipping when it hits something. And I don’t think you want to end up with a broken diamond.
It’s true that princess cut gives you more carats for the money but carats don’t equal size. The princes cut you liked has measurements of 4.76 x 4.76 mm. Look at this 0.60ct ROUND that is lower in carat weight but larger in size: 5.35 x 5.38 mm.

It’s a gorgeous diamond that I would look amazing.
It’s up to you what you prefer – the carat weight number or the actual size.
Thank you for noticing the large feather! I did not see it.
Regarding the diamond you suggested, is spending another couple hundred dollars worth it for a larger diamond or will not be that noticeable?
Usually, when it’s the same shape, a difference if 0.10ct isn’t that noticeable unless you look at them closely side by side.
Thank you so much.
