Hi, I am a 23 year old recent college grad who needs a lot of help. I have no clue where to start and have been browsing the web for hours aimlessly.Thankfully I found you! I appreciate the article about the truth about Bluenile as well as I almost pulled the impromptu trigger.
My budget is $5,000
Color of metal: Silver, white gold. Not gold
Basically I’d like as big and extravagant looking of a ring as possible.
Setting: small amount of stones, nothing spectacular. I’d rather spend 1,000 on setting and 4,000 on ring.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I’d recommend something like this for you:
Its bright, eye-clean and a great value. You can easily find a white gold setting and still come in under budget. What do you think?
I love it!
I think that J color and SI2 clarity seem like a perfect middle ground for me and my price range.
Now that I’ve done more research and am in the ballpark of my needs I have been getting into a little more detail on James Allen.
What is the difference between excellent and ideal cut? On james allen in the description, it makes them seem that same but some diamonds are ideal and some are excellent.
Are there any other factors affecting price? On James Allen I see virtually identical diamonds selling for different amounts and I just wanted to make sure I have every advantage possible when making such a big purchase.

All very similar, but with $400 of price difference I’d be curious what is the difference and what an expert (you) recomend when choosing between.
Thank you so much, I honestly appreciate your help more than I can describe in this email!
There is no difference between Ideal cut and Excellent cut. There are two independent laboratories that are considered the gold standard in the diamond business; GIA and AGS. GIA certificates use the term ‘Ex’ cut for their top cut grade and AGS uses the term ‘Ideal.’ While they have different parameters, they are similar. I think its more of a glitch in JA’s system that interchanges the terminology of the diamonds.
