Q&A: Choosing a ~1.70 Ct Round Diamond Within a $17,000 Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hello,

I’m looking for a 2-carat or near 2-carat diamond solitaire. The budget is $17k or less. I want an eye clean stone with an excellent cut and would like to stay in the H color range.

Please let me know what you think of this stone from Brian Gavin:

Will there be a noticeable difference between a 1.70 and 2.00 carat diamond?

Can you suggest other stones?

Many thanks.

Going with a BG diamond is a great decision. Their diamonds are truly impressive.

I’m not a big fan of the inclusion on the diamond you picked out. I think that this one is a much better choice:

As for the size, there will be a difference. However, I would much rather go with a smaller diamond that is fantastically cut than aim for the size and end up with a less brilliant and less impressive stone.

I like the BG stone you suggested. Do you think BG is the best when it comes to cut?

Are there options with other companies in which I could get a 2.00 carat stone in my price range with excellent cut without sacrificing color?

Many thanks.

If you want the best cut possible, stick with Brian Gavin. He is known as one of the world’s experts when it comes to perfectly cut diamonds. His diamonds are all incredibly brilliant. https://www.diamonds.pro/reviews/brian-gavin/

I plan to purchase this diamond. Thanks so much for your help.

Sounds great. Let me know how it looks when it arrives.

Just wanted to let you know I just a few days ago purchased the Brian Gavin stone you recommended to me.

Thanks so much for your help. I visited a very well-known jewelry store (famous for its iconic blue gift boxes) a few days ago and saw a stone of the same weight, slightly lower clarity, but a G color. The price was $40,000! Of course the store’s reputation is included in the price, and I suppose that is important to some people. But I feel we got a great deal with Brian Gavin and can’t wait to see the ring.

Again, thanks for your advice.

Thanks a lot for letting me know. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Their diamonds are stunning!

I love the diamond! Its brilliance is stunning! It has attracted attention from friends and acquaintances who usually don’t notice such things.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

Best regards!

I’m glad that you enjoy the ring that much. Very happy to hear that.

I wish you and your partner a happy life.
