I am looking to purchase a diamond for an upcoming engagement and am wondering what you think about the diamonds that I have listed below. I have been looking at diamonds for a while with the girlfriend and have determined that she wants a rectangle cushion cut diamond. I have been looking to see what I can get for around $6500 and would like something around +/- 1.20 – 1.25 ct. (hope that is possible on that budget). I will be putting the diamond in a white gold setting with diamonds on the band (found a Silvie ring at a local dealer and am now looking at James Allen for a similar setting, but I am not sure the color the side stones will be).

The concerns I have about the diamonds are:
1) Is an H color cushion cut diamond going to be white enough for a white gold setting with side diamonds? If so, what do you think about the H color diamond above?
2) In the G color diamond above, should I be concerned about the “knot” listed in the GIA report?
3) In the G color diamond above, should I be concerned with the medium blue fluorescence? I have read your information about fluorescence and see that you state that the they are rarely hazy with medium fluorescence. Is there any way to judge if this will cause an issue with how the diamond looks.
Thank you for your help.
Both are very nice but I love the G diamond you selected. It is far superior (cut, color and price).
1) Is an H color cushion cut diamond going to be white enough for a white gold setting with side diamonds? If so, what do you think about the H color diamond above? – No, its not an issue.
2) In the G color diamond above, should I be concerned about the “knot” listed in the GIA report? – No, the diamond is eye-clean.
3) In the G color diamond above, should I be concerned with the medium blue fluorescence? I have read your information about fluorescence and see that you state that the they are rarely hazy with medium fluorescence. Is there any way to judge if this will cause an issue with how the diamond looks.
– I am fairly certain the fluorescence won’t be an issue. You can ask JA to have their gemologist inspect the diamond to ensure its not an issue.
Thank you for you response. Just minutes after I received your e-mail I went to buy the diamond you said was best and, even though it had been available the day before, it was no longer available…
You said the “G” color diamond was much better than the “H” color diamond and you noted the color and price (which were obviously better) but you also noted the cut. Is there a reason you thought the H color diamond wasn’t as good when it comes to cut? Should I be concerned with it’s cut?
I have definitely decided to buy a diamond from James Allen, but I’m not in any hurry since I still have a few months. With that said, I’m wondering if I should go ahead and get the “H” color diamond below.
Do you think there will be any issues with this specific diamond being to dark or to yellow for a white gold band with side diamonds? It looks a little yellow compared to other similar diamonds, but I also noticed that the background looks darker than many other similar diamonds.

And, just to clarify, I previously asked if an H color cushion cut diamond would be white enough for a white gold band with side diamonds. Your answer was “no, it’s not an issue”. I assume this means, yes, it’s white enough and an H color cushion cut diamond should be fine so it’s not an issue. (Sorry, was just concerned when you said “no”).
They were both very nice diamonds and well within the parameters we recommend. I just felt that the advantages of the G made it a better value. That doesn’t mean the H isn’t a nice diamond.
The H color is perfectly fine with pave settings. The ‘cut’ comment was in reference to the depth%. The diamond should be under 70% depth. Both were, but the G was a little better.
Thank you for your help. I think I am going to go ahead and purchase it.
I really appreciate it.
Sounds good. Let me know how it looks when it arrives.
