Q&A: Choosing a 0.7 Ct. Round Diamond Within the $1700-2300 Price Range

By Mike Fried,

I first want to thank you for your website, I’ve learned a lot about diamonds and am glad that I found your site before making a purchase! I am looking for a round diamond, approximately 0.75 carat in the $1700-2300 price range. I plan on putting the diamond on a 14k white gold setting. I have looked at quite a few diamonds on different sites and the link below is one that looks pretty nice to me. It has a slight yellowish tinge, but I’m not sure if that would be noticeable over the white gold setting.

Do you have any other recommendations?
Any advice would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!

I’d be happy to make some recommendations and guide you through the process. What type of setting are you considering? Will it be a solitaire or does it have sidestones/pave? This may affect the colors that I recommend for the center diamond (as we explain in our post on color).

Let me know and I’d be happy to send you some suggestions.

No problem about the delay. I really like the 0.73 carat diamond you suggested. I read on your site that the medium blue fluorescence in the stone will make it look whiter because the diamond is a J colour. This is one of the reasons I like this one over the .75 carat diamond you also suggested.
For the 0.73 carat diamond, would you recommend 4-prong or 6-prong? I know that 6 prong is a little more secure, but the additional prongs will reduce the amount of light entering the diamond. My issue with the 4-prong is that it makes the round diamond look square.
What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks.

I like the six-prong look. If you like it, go for it.

The 0.73 carat diamond has already sold so I decided to go with the 0.75 carat diamond you recommended!

Thank you so much for all of your help, I really appreciate it. I will recommend your site to anyone I know looking for more information on diamonds.

Thanks again!

Sounds good. Let me know how it looks when it arrives.
