Q&A: Choosing a 0.40 Ct. Round Diamond for a White Gold Solitaire Setting With a $900 Total Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi.

I’m looking for a white gold solitaire ring with a round stone preferably a 0.40 carat. Maximum budget of $850/$900 for the whole ring. I have been looking at 0.40 carat diamonds and just want something that looks good to the naked eye.

I found the following combo:
Classic Simple Solitaire Engagement Ring in 14k White Gold
Blue Nile LD14713888
This diamond is fantastically cut and would look amazing in a solitaire setting. The high clarity grade is just a coincidence, it was the first eye-clean option I found.

The diamond looks perfect. Not sure about the setting but I can easily find one I like.

The setting is just an example (and the cheapest option I found to bring the cost of the ring down). Feel free to find something that would suit your taste better 🙂

I stupidly didn’t order this diamond at the time and it has now been sold. Could you help me find another?

No worries, here’s a new one and it’s just as perfect:
Blue Nile LD14016387

That one is not very well cut and has a Cloud as the only clarity characteristic. This means that the diamond would lose a lot of its brilliance.

Ok thank you. Are you able to suggest anything from James Allen so I can make a decision between those rings and Blue Nile?

Great, thanks so much!

Happy to help.
