I’m looking at a diamond that appears to be a steal. It’s SI2 and from what I can tell, it’s mainly due to a chip on the girdle. To me, that’s the perfect defect as it can be hidden by a prong when it’s in a setting. I wanted to get your opinion to see if this diamond is “eye clean” (other than the chip):

Thank you for all of your help, advice and articles!
The issue with the stone is the clarity grade. The cert says “Clarity grade is based on clouds that are not shown”. It means that there’s a big cloud that significantly influences the appearance of the stone. It makes the stone look hazy. That’s why I don’t recommend purchasing it.
Can you also tell me what style of setting (solitaire, halo, pave or other) and metal (platinum/white or yellow gold) you’re going to use and what your approximate budget is? Different settings suit certain colors better. Then I’ll be happy to send you my suggestion.

Thank you SO much for your advice, I really appreciate it! I looked at the diamond all day and by the end of the day after I emailed you I was thinking the same thing about the cloudiness. Your recommendation not to buy it is a true sign of your objectivity and I feel very assured working with you.
To answer your question, I’m going with a platinum setting, very simple solitaire, 2mm band, 4 or 6 prong, size 5. My goal is to get an eye clean, near colorless diamond as close to 2 carats as possible (although I understand it will probably be smaller). My budget is 10-11k for the total ring cost. If you have any recommendations, I would love to take a look.
Rest assured, I will make sure you get credit for my purchase!
……
I forgot to mention, I’m looking for a round diamond, excellent cut or better.
Thank you for the information.
I found a great option on Blue Nile. As you mentioned, the stone is slightly smaller. But it’s within the budget you mentioned with great overall specifications:
Blue Nile LD08638490
It’s the biggest diamond I found. The SI stones I found were either not eye-clean or smaller in size.
Let me know what you think.
This is a great recommendation, thank you!
My girlfriend (soon to be fiance) looked at a few stones yesterday and I was pleased to find out she didn’t have a color preference when shown F, H and J stones. I’m definitely going with a J now.
However, I am second guessing the size since she was perfectly content with a 3/4 carat. I do want to give her a big rock but I may reconsider my budget a little. I can afford the budget I have now but any less money I spend now will give me more to spend on the wedding/honeymoon, etc. I will keep you posted and will absolutely make sure you get credit for my purchase.
I’m happy that you like my suggestion. And thank you that you care so much.
Keep me posted.
