Q&A: Choosing a 2 Ct. Cushion Cut Diamond Within a $14,500 Budget

By Mike Fried,

Hi, I’m wondering if you can give me an opinion regarding the following diamond for $14,500: Is the price fair? Ho concerned should I be about the girdle for cushion cuts?
Thank you!!

GIA
Cushion Modified Brilliant
Measurements: 7.31 x 6.65 x 4.29 mm
Carat Weight: 1.81 carat
Color Grade: E
Clarity Grade: SI1

Proportions
Depth: 64.5%
Table: 58%
Girdle: Very Thin – extremely thick (faceted)
Culet: None

Finish
Polish: very good
Symmetry: good
Fluorescence: None

I would not recommend the diamond. I think the cut is nice (with the exception of the girdle) but you are vastly overpaying for color: https://www.diamonds.pro/education/color/
(the video on that page is great).

You can get a diamond that will look identical for far less money:

What do you think?

Thanks so much! If I wanted to spend around the same amount (14,500), but go up in size, could you recommend some 2 ct stones? Is it possible to get a quality 2 ct stone in that range?
