Hello, I’m looking for a 1ct (ish) emerald cut diamond and a nice solitaire or 3 stone setting to go with it. My budget is 5-6000 USD for the complete ring. As I know from spending numerous hours reading your site and others, I know cut matters a lot, and that cut isn’t graded by GIA in these kinds of diamonds. I was hoping you might be able to point me in the direction of a few good options within the parameters that you mention in your article on Emerald and Asscher cut diamonds. Thanks for your time.
Would you be ok with a 0.90ct center? I think that will make things a lot easier given your budget.
I can certainly make do with a .9ct center. In consultation with James Allen, they have recommended the following as potentially suitable. Any thoughts?
I like this diamond for you:
What do you think?
It does look fantastic! I did want to bounce one of my own picks off you, just to get an idea of where I stand. I liked the picture, and I thought the D colour grade gave it a very cool look, but I was worried that being almost square and the fluorescence might adversely affect it’s overall lustre. I’ve put both of them on hold for now while I pick a setting, and I would love your feedback. Thanks again, and my apologies for being so picky!
…
Oh, and I’m rather fond of this setting too; if that changes anything…
I do not like that E VS2. The L:W ratio is very poor for an Em cut.
Thanks for your continued advice. I have decided to go with your pick, and the James Allen Lady said much the same thing you did. I have let them know that you gave them a very solid reference, and I wish you all the best. You provide an excellent service, and I can’t thank you enough. I will let you know how the final product looks when it arrives.
Sounds great. Please let me know how it looks when it arrives.
