Q&A: Asking for a Second Opinion on a 1.23 Ct. H, VS2 Princess Cut Diamond

By Mike Fried,

1. About $6000 for diamond, $1000 for setting
2. Platinum
3. Princess cut diamond set in a diamond band

Hi, I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend in the next month and generally know what type of diamond I want (1-1.25 carats, H color, VS2 or better, Ideal cut).

Would this diamond from James Allen (link below) have noticeable defects to the naked eye? I basically want a diamond that you couldn’t detect defects with the naked eye, and it seems like a VS2 is about the lowest I could go.

Thanks for your expertise!

It seems like you have this diamond buying process down pat. I love the diamond you selected. It is absolutely eye-clean.

Let me know how it looks when it arrives.

Thank you so much for the quick feedback! I really appreciate it. If I jumped down lower to a SI1 or SI2 would I see a noticeable difference in clarity or should I stick with VS1 or VS2 for the lowest clarity where I would not see visible defects by the eye? Thanks.

Its very rare to find an eye-clean SI princess cut. I think that is the best bet.

Okay cool. I’m happy with VS1/VS2. Thanks for the help!
