I’ve done a bit of reading, including your site, and I think I understand a little bit. So here’s what I’m looking at:
Diamond 1: .75ct, Sig Ideal cut, H, VVS1 $2925
Diamond 2: .80ct, Sig ideal cut, H, IF $3063
Diamond 3: .78ct, Sig ideal cut, H, VVS2 $3236
(source: Blue Nile)
Everything I understand dictates that the IF diamond should be the most expensive. What am I missing?
Can you send me the links to the diamonds, so I can check all the details first?
Thanks for getting back to me. I contacted Blue Nile. They said that they sell their diamonds according to the cost of acquisition, so sometimes you’ll find an IF diamond that is less expensive than a lower quality diamond of the same weight.
If that sounds right to you, I’m willing to go with that explanation.
That is true. But there still might be other things that affect the price.
If you send me the links, I’ll have a look.

The third diamond must have been sold. Here’s a comparable one:

Thanks.
In this case, I have no idea why the IF one is less expensive. Go with the explanation BN gave you. And take an advantage of the IF diamond if you like it. There is nothing wrong with it and the price is great for such a stone.
Cool, thanks. Assuming I get it, would it be a good idea to have the stone appraised, just in case?
You’re going to receive an appraisal from Blue Nile as well. I don’t think it’s necessary to do that on your own.
