I have come across your website and I believe have learned a ton regarding what to look for vs the ‘hype’ categories. Having said that I am about to make a rather large engagement ring purchase and would like to make sure I give myself the best possible diamond for my budget, since, well she’s worth it.
I am looking at a pave or petite pave band. Want to stick with classic round diamond.
After the cost of the band, I am looking to spend about $7500 on the diamond.
The search I used (at James Allen and blue Nile) has been:
1.10+ carat
I & H color
Ideal + cut (but making sure it was “excellent” graded from GIA)
VVS2 +
Medium Blue Fluor
Using the JA search I get the following results. I’m not sure if it is just picture/camera quality, but the first link (1.18carat) appears to be much clearer/’nicer’ than the second which again, according to the picture seems to be cloudy. The first I can see a little ‘speckle’ on the lower portion of the top side of the diamond, whereas the 2nd is listed as IF… If you would not mind, and have the ability, could you take a look and either let me know if I am in the right ballpark as far as my search parameters on importance, or if either of these diamonds is great based on your knowledge. And if there is another diamond just waiting to be bought up that I am overlooking, that would be tremendous information.
I truly thank you for any guidance you can offer!!
It seems like you have this diamond buying process down pat. I love the first diamond you selected. I think the proportions are a bit better and will make the diamond more brilliant.
Let me know how it looks when it arrives.
