My name is Marvin Velazquez and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA though my parents came from Mexico. I’ve always had a love for electronics, technology, and science so it’s no surprise that in 1998 I entered the Massachusetts Institute Technology to study Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Upon graduating in 2002 with my Bachelors I went to Penn State University to pursue a Masters in Acoustics. After finishing up my school work, I came back to Southern California in 2004.
In the summer of 2005, I started working for a small defense contracting company in Cypress, CA and little did I know that there I would meet the love of my life and my future business partner Michele. Michele and I have very different personalities so the saying that opposites attract was definitely true for us.
We started dating in late 2008 and on April 24, 2010 I decided to take Michele on a date to a “restaurant”. The restaurant was actually a dinner cruise in Marina Del Rey. I was nervous that whole night because I had an engagement ring in my pocket. I had already asked her mother for her blessing so all I had to do was have a proposal plan and execute it.
At the dinner cruise, we were enjoying ourselves and I asked her to go to the top of the boat with me. After initially refusing, I enticed her to go up. On the front deck where the view was amazing, the water was quiet, and the stars were out I dropped down on one knee and asked Michele to be my wife. Michele of course said yes.
A few months down the road, Michele came to me and said that she had thought of a Proposal Planning business idea because she really wanted a picture to have been taken of us at the moment I was on bended knee.
I thought it was a great idea because I could have used lots of feedback and advice when I was thinking of proposal ideas for her. That is where The Heart Bandits started.
